Panasonic Lumix DMC FZ40 Review
They say good things come in small packages. That’s a pretty old saying, but it applies beautifully to the Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ40. This compact camera is loaded with innovative features usually reserved for those bulky (and expensive) digital SLRs. If you care about value as much as performance, this is the camera for you.
Panasonic has built a reputation for being a quality electronics brand, seamlessly matching outstanding features and a competitive price. Though names like Nikon and Canon are still what most people think of when they envision a digital camera, Panasonic’s Lumix series seems set on changing that. This series of value-driven cameras makes just about anyone look like a professional photographer. They’re ideal cameras to learn on, but will provide results you can be proud of along the way. Nothing preserves a memory quite like a great picture, and the Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ40 produces those in spades.
The Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ40 is what’s known as a “superzoom” camera, featuring – you guessed it – incredible zoom capabilities. Most cameras simply can’t handle a huge zoom. At upper-level magnifications, the quality of their images deteriorates into a mess of noise and blur. Professional SLRs compensate for this with high-powered interchangeable lenses with high zoom potential.

With the Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ40, incredible zoom is built right in. This little powerhouse packs up to a 24x optical zoom capability, with sharp focus the whole way. The Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ40 is also bolstered by a promising new feature called Intelligent Resolution. This keeps long-range shots clean and noise-free, and effectively increases the zoom radius by 1.3x. So while the Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ40 sports a 24x optical zoom, Intelligent Resolution makes that more like 32x. Check out any competing camera on the market – you won’t see anything like it.
In addition to excelling at long-range shots, the Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ40 is also impressively fast. This camera only needs a few thousandths of a second between shots for the shutter to catch up, making it possible to snap those incredible split-second images. Imagine catching a hummingbird in flight, or getting the photo of the precise moment someone crosses a finish line. These are some of the trademark shots of pro photographers, but even rank amateurs can make them happen with the Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ40.
There are numerous other features that make this camera outstanding, from custom color settings to the ability to take 360-degree panoramic shots. About the only drawback to this camera is its low price. At less than $500, some people are sure to dismiss the Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ40 as just another cheap digital camera. Don’t make their mistake. Check this camera out, and fool everyone into thinking you took a photography class.
